Hi, I’m looking for some advice for the best travel pass for a family of 4, (2 adults, 2 kids under 10). Staying in Interlaken for two weeks, need to get from Geneva Airport and back as well.

Looking at getting the transfer ticket with family card, then half fair card, not sure whether these are the best options? Travelling end of May.

    thanks in advance

    regards

    Hello Kai, welcome to MySwissAlps!

Assuming that you’ll be doing day trips in the region, not all over Switzerland, I’d recommend the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland: http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and. Click to the “Where it’s valid” tab to see where it’s valid and download the coverage map for details. The downside is that the pass is only valid for 10 days, so you’re left with 2 days without a pass I think: on the transfer days from and to the airport you can indeed buy Swiss Transfer Tickets for the adults, and get a free Swiss Family Card for the children. Accommodation in Interlaken will provide you with a Visitors Card which includes free traveling in and around town, so that’s useful for the remaining days.

The Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland can be printed at home if you purchase via https://www.happyrail. com/en/pass/europe/swi tzerland/regional-pass-berner-oberland. Don’t forget to order two (cheaper) passes for the children as well (assuming they are older than 5), and double check when filling out your e-mail address. They’ll send the passes via e-mail within one working day. They just introduced that so no worries if you see some conflicting messages about this delivery option, they are still working on that, but the e-mail option is fine. The Swiss Transfer Ticket and Swiss Family Card can be sent via e-mail as well. Via them as well, https://www.happyrail. com/en/pass/europe/swi tzerland/swiss-transfer-tickets, or any other retailer: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstransferticket/pric e.

Hi Arno, thanks for the reply.

We are looking forward to our trip, I have purchased the transfer ticket with the family card.

At the moment we are unsure how much travelling around we will be doing, so am considering the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland pass or the Half fare card.

Can these be purchased once we are in Switzerland or is it only possible to purchase before we arrive.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Kai,

Yes you can buy them at a rail station office in Switzerland. The Bernese Oberland Regional Card must be bought at a station within that region (so Interlaken for example). The Swiss Half Fare Card can be bought at any rail station office.
