    Dear

First of all I would like to say that this forum is excellent and the practical advice, information provided and useful tips given are extremely impressive. I will be grateful if you may advice regarding the following.

We are a family of 4 adults (including 2 youths) arriving in Zurich on 19th of July and wish to travel in Switzerland and 2 cities in Austria to return on 2nd of August. Our interests are enjoying natural beauty, wildlife and music. Our draft itinerary which is flexible is as follows:

    19.07.18 Zurich to Wengen

19, 20, 21, 22nd July stay in Wengen and go for days out for walks etc.

23, 24th July In Interlaken and Luzern

25th July Luzern to Zermatt and take Glacier Express to St Moritz

?26th July To take Bernina Express to Chur

    26, 27 28th July ??

    29th July Chur to Salzburg

    31st July Salzburg to Innsbruck

    2nd August Return from Innsbruck

    Queries:

1 Where shall we stay and take Bernina Express from so that we can end up reaching Chur to go to Salzburg on 29th?

2 Any suggestions about where else may we visit during 26-28th of July or indeed any other route we may take as we are flexible in where we may visit?

3 With above in mind which will be better to buy -Swiss travel pass or Half fare pass please?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Regards.

    Anil

Hi Anil and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You might want to Use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel. If you haven’t used it before it will pay to read the instructions on that page before delving into the timetable.

You will find Luzern to Zermatt to St Moritz is not practical in a day.

Look at re-ordering your plans so you have less back-tracking.

Maybe start in Luzern, then move to Wengen, then to Zermatt, then to St. Moritz.

You don’t need to take the Bernina Express (BEX) from St Moritz to Chur. A regular train will be fine.

If you had time you could take the BEX to Lugano but that puts you a long way from Salzburg.

After an overnight stay you could possibly go from Lugano to Luzern on Gotthard Panorama Express and have your Luzern stay at the end rather than the beginning.

    There are many permutations.

As well as the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) there are many regional passes (http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpasses) which can work depending on where you are based and how much travel you plan. Before you can know for sure which pass suits your travel plans you need to do the sums based on the cost of all your planned trips on trains, boats, cable cars etc. You can use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to work out the fares for any trip. When you go to buy a ticket the fare you see on the right hand side of the page will normally be the half-fare price. Double it to get full fare. With A Swiss Travel Pass it is free provided it is shown as free on the Area of Validity map ( PDF downloadable from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity).

You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).
