We are traveling in the first two weeks in April. We start in Lucern for 3 days, then travel to Interlaken via Golden Pass train. We will continue on to Lauterbrunnen to stay 1 night while visiting Jungfrau – Top of the World that same day. The following morning we travel to Zermatt (3 nights).

Question is: Should we double back from Lauterbrunnen to Interlake and do the 2nd & 3rd leg of the Golden Pass which will require us to continue on to Zermatt (adding 2-1/2hrs). Or is the train ride from Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt via Interlake – Spiez – Visp – Zermatt a equally scenic trip?

Quick correction to begin with, the Jungfraujoch is not the top of the World, but rather the Top of Europe, it’s Europe’s highest train station.

I believe that the direct route from Interlaken to Zermatt is scenic enough. Of course you can always add the Golden Pass route to Montreux to your trip. You then have the option to travel all in one day (quite a journey), or stay overnight in Montreux, also a wonderful idea.
