We will be in Zurich from 14 July afternoon to 17 July. Our main stay will be at the airport hotel in Zurich and would like to cover the following within our three and half days: Hopefully we can!

14/7: Zurich city (Maybe Rhinefalls as well)

15/7: Mt. Titlis then around Lucerne

16/7: Schilthorn then Trummelbach falls then Jungfrau

18/7: Grindelwald First for rides ( Is it better to do Jungfrau in the morning and then Grindelwald First in the afternoon?)

    1. How many hours are enough on the mountains? Is it better to purchase the tickets before hand for the mountains? There is a promotion right now for the Jungfrau mountains when purchasing the swill rail pass. The days and routes can be flexible , maybe do the tiring trips first.

    2. Which website to purchase the swiss rail pass (online tickets) as we don’t have many days to our trip.

    3. Would the three day Swiss rail pass be enough as I’ve heard that free intercity rail tickets are provided by the hotels in Zurich? If so we can use it for the first day.

    4. Which will be the best route to travel to these places to save time with the Swiss rail pass.

    5. Is it better to get sim cards for the stay or get a portable wifi for the family? Which company is best that covers the above areas?

Any other suggestions regarding the above is appreciated. Thank you very much!

    Hi again NazKhan!

    1. Some people watch the views for 30 minutes and then leave, others take hours to explore the place or hike/walk a little, have lunch. It also depends on where you are going. You can find all details about the mountains and tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/naturalsites/ mountains.

    2. Please see your previous thread at http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/tight-swiss-intinerary, and http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/price.

    3. There is no free transportation in Zurich as far as I am aware. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/travel for the options.

    Hello Amo.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn’t able to find my old posts and you’ve provided the link. I have checked them. Based on your experiences, is it possible to do Jungfrau in the morning and Grindelwald First in the afternoon as they are not far from each other?

Where can I find the exact directions/station names for traveling by trains to check the routes at the SBB website as we will be using the Swiss pass traveling without a guide. eg. From Zurich airport to Mt Titlis we need to change trains (would like to be prepared to save time!). Thank you!

    Hi Slowpoke,

Thank you. Cover meaning to visit the the following destinations :

15/7:Mt. Titlis, Lucerne and Zurich city

16/7: Jungfrau and then Grindelwald First for rides

    17/7: Schilthorn then Trummelbach falls

Was trying to purchase the swiss pass online and they now have a Jungfrau promotion. No reservation fee for the cog wheel train. If I enter the visit date and time then I must travel on the exact day and time or is it flexible? Is it wise to purchase it now or better to buy it when we reach Switzerland?

Do we need to make prior reservation for trains when travelling with a swiss rail pass or we can just hop on and off?

which route to choose for Jungfrau then to Grindelwald? Is Wengen – Grindelwald the correct route?

    All help is much appreciated!

    Hello NazKhan,

Have you looked at the option of of taking “guided tours from Zurich” to your destinations?
    Rhinefalls, morning
Rhinefalls and Stein am Rhein, afternoon
both provide pickup and drop off at Zurich Airport
    Lucerne & Mount Titlis
    Jungfraujoch

You could then ask for a drop-off in Grindelwald or Interlaken after visiting the Jungfraujoch on the second last day and add a night in the Bernese Oberland. This depends a little on your flexibility and departure time on the last day. Alternatively, add another (closer) day trip from Zurich.

    Hi Nazkhan-

Cover meaning to visit the the following destinations :

15/7:Mt. Titlis, Lucerne and Zurich city

16/7: Jungfrau and then Grindelwald First for rides

    17/7: Schilthorn then Trummelbach falls

You can visit each place for 10 minutes, 10 hours or, or , for the cities and their surroundings, up to a week or even more.

Grindelwald First with rides depends on whether you repeat on anything, but , half a day by the time you get up there, walk around, do the rides, get back down, is reasonable, and can be combined with Jungraujoch…..depending on how much time you spend up there.

I all of the cases, you can reach them and take a look around within your allotted time, but , for me, “cover” means explore thoroughly.

So, on 15/7 you will not have time to do that for the cities, if you go first to Titlis and thoroughly explore the features. You can certainly visit the cities and walk around for a few minutes.

    and,

Although there are many trains per hour between Zürich Airport and the main station, you would save time each day if you were staying in the city, since your journeys all go through Zürich main station.

To better understand what is available, allowing you to choose, look up each of those place names with the search function of this site, or, for the cities, look here:

Thank you Steph and Slowpoke. I looked up the times and the train journey takes quite a while from Zurich but we’ve already booked our hotels at the airport. Unless, like you said, staying at the city would have saved us time. Will have to rethink about the places to visit. If I book the guided tours from Zurich.I don’t think we will be using the Swiss Rail Pass much?

    Hello NazKhan,

Correct, if you take guided tours from Zurich, there is no need to get a Swiss Travel Pass, you can then use a more Zurich local tickets as the further destinations and mountain tickets are covered by the tour.

    Best,
    Steph
