Hello LadyDee,
If you look at the attached extract from the Swiss Travel Pass validity map you will see there are three options to get from Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen:
- by rail to Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen to Lauterbrunnen
- by bus (the cable car is not operation at present so there is a replacement bus service) to Männlichen to Wengen to Lauterbrunnen (or you can hike from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg The Grannies Walk and train from there if you really want to savour the scenery)
- by ordinary trains via Zweilütschinen
The first two would be more scenic than the last. Bearing in mind of course you are in the Jungfrau Region so you are surrounded by scenery wherever you go.
Use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to plan your travel.

This graphic is another good way to visualise the various routes around the Jungfrau Region (bearing in mind the cable way from Grindelwald Grund to Männlichen is out of action and a replacement bus service is in operation).
The altitude of some of the routes will give you an indication of the better scenery.

All the routes from Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen are ‘the most scenic’ as you are in the heart of the Berner Oberland area. If you are in Grindelwald for 2 weeks the likelihood is that you will visit Lauterbrunnen more than once, and that you will want to travel all around the area. Also if you are in the area for 2 weeks, you don’t really need advanced advice on such matters as you will easily find out for yourself once in the area (hotel staff, tourist office staff, railway ticket office staff etc will all be more than willing to explain things to you.

We are visiting Grindelwald in January. Is it likely we could make the same day trip to Lauterbrunnen in January? Should we anticipate using a different route due to winter weather?

You can follow the same routes in winter. The bus Grindelwald Grund to Männlichen won’t be running but by then the new V-bahn cable way should be operational.
