Hi there,
Can you all please suggest where to go for my single mountain experience. We are a couple in our 30s with no kids. We are coming in July and we live in Dubai so we never see snow, so it’s crucial we get to see it 🙂 My husband has never seen snow in his life …
We would like to do at least 1 of these activities, and I’m not sure where I can do it in the summer:
-being able to walk on snow
-Sledding/tobogganing
-Snow shoeing
-Snow tubing
-Dog sledding
from this website I understand I only have these 4 options so which do you suggest of us specifically 🙂
Jungfraujoch, Klein Matterhorn, Mittelallin, mount Titlus
thanks !!

Hi Mahadxb, welcome to MySwissAlps!
It would be great if you could experience snow in summer for sure. July is one of the hottest months in Switzerland though, and snow on mountain tops isn’t guaranteed. More details can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit and http://www.myswissalps.com/weather. You’ll have to pick the highest peaks for the best chances of summer snow. I’d recommend Klein Matterhorn (http://www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn) or Jungfraujoch (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch).
They’re pretty far apart, so you should also look into the regions of these mountain tops and find out which of them appeals to you most:
- for Klein Matterhorn, see if the Matter valley (http://www.myswissalps.com/mattervalley) or the wider Valais area (http://www.myswissalps.com/valais) interest you;
- for Jungfraujoch, look into the Jungfrau region (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion) and the wider Bernese Oberland (http://www.myswissalps.com/berneseoberland).
More planning tips are available here: http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip.
Does this get you started? Have fun preparing and let us know if you have more questions!

what about these as well?
– staying in Saas fee and visiting Mittelallin
– staying in Gstaad and visiting glacier 3000
I had read these are high up too..
Im not sure if Jungfraujoch is worth it. It’s sooo expensive, so I’m willing to go somewhere else if there’s snow. And also I felt that Murren and Wengen didn’t have nice hotels. We are a bit picky on rooms/bathrooms and it felt basic there ( I didn’t check grindelwald yet )
To stay in Junfrau region I’m afraid we would have to stay in Interlaken because of better hotel options… so it’s either that or another town to stay ( good views are important)… lake thun ? G staad? Saas fee? Adelboden ? Zermatt?
thanks !!
AnnikaModerator7116 posts23 May 2021 at 10:29:22 #935061Hi Mahadxb! Glacier 3000 (http://www.myswissalps.com/glacier3000) is beautiful too, but considerably lower than some of the other mountain tops. So if summer snow is most important to you, you may want to pick another option. Sure, Saas-Fee (http://www.myswissalps.com/saasfee) and Mittelallalin (http://www.myswissalps.com/mittelallalin) would work as well. I’m not sure if there are sledding and toboggan runs there too though. That’s why I advised Klein Matterhorn and Jungfraujoch.
Yes, Jungfraujoch is expensive (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/tickets). I personally feel like it’s worth the money, as the journey to and from the top station is quite special (http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/gettingthere) and the views are thrilling. You’ll look over the impressive Aletsch Glacier, the surrounding high Alps as well as the hills and valleys of the Bernese Oberland. Also note that you can save on this trip and other trips if you use a rail pass, which is much cheaper than getting normal tickets in nearly all cases: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. But opinions differ, and of course you should find an option that suits your own preferences.
Did you check our hotel suggestions for the towns below? They include comfortable and luxurious accommodation too:
- Mürren: http://www.myswissalps.com/murren/hotels
- Wengen: http://www.myswissalps.com/wengen/hotels
- Grindelwald: http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald/hotels
- Lauterbrunnen: http://www.myswissalps.com/lauterbrunnen/hotels
Interlaken or other nearby towns are a good base as well, especially if you want to explore a wider area. There are certainly options with great views there as well. We’ve explained about hotel options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/interlaken/hotels.
If you’re looking into Zermatt or Saas-Fee, you’ll find hotel tips here:
There are countless other options for base towns. It all depends on which other activities you’d like to do and your main criteria for accommodation. You can explore regions and towns here: http://www.myswissalps.com/wheretogo.
MahadxbParticipant10 posts24 May 2021 at 18:23:44 #935062I have decided to skip Zermatt
I am now deciding between Jungfraujoch and Mount Titlis. Does the latter also have snow in the summer ?
Also I was wondering for Jungfraujoch i we can hike to the mountain hut Mönchsjochhütte, by walking on the glacier . Can you please confirm if I will be walking on snow on the trail in the summer ? Or there won’t be snow on this route . I couldn’t find anything online! Thanks!!
AnnaModerator6355 posts24 May 2021 at 18:52:58 #935063Hi Mahadxb,
Based on your concerns, I think Titlis would be a better option. You can experience snow at the top all year even in the summer. However snow activities such snowtubing and toboggan rides are only available in the winter, I think. Plenty of summer activities in Titlis to keep you entertained though. Check out the link here: http://www.myswissalps.com/titlis
Best regards,
Anna

We visited Titlis in August 2019 and I can confirm that you can do snowtubing there in the summer.
Mahadxb, you should take into account that you need to take a chairlift from near the gondola station to the snowtubing area and it costs extra. I don’t remember the price, maybe around 12 chf per person.

I contacted the Glacier park at Titlis and this summer snowtubing won’t be open. They open only in December. Hopefully they will be open in 2022 for summer too.
So you’ll see snow at Titlis just won’t be able to try snowtube there.
I am sorry,
Ildiko
AnnikaModerator7116 posts26 May 2021 at 12:26:48 #935066Thanks for figuring that out Ildikó! That’s too bad Mahadxb, as usually there are snow activities in summer in the so-called ‘Glacier Park’ park at Titlis. Please refer to ‘Activities at the Titlis’ at http://www.myswissalps.com/titlis.
Yes, you can walk from Jungfraujoch to the Mönchsjoch hut in 45-60 minutes. It’s at an altitude of about 3600 metres, so ice and snow are pretty much guaranteed :-). Please see ‘Activities at the Jungfraujoch’ at http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch.
