Hello. What is the best way to get from Wengen to First? We are planning to hike First to Schynige Platte. Thank you!

The lift from Wengen to Mannlichen is operating, but the ones down to Grindelwald were not operating on account of construction a couple weeks ago. It sounded like they would be down for an extended period.

When are you planning to go? We attempted to hike from Schynige Platte to First today and were stopped by snow that made it too precarious to pass. It can probably be done, but after making our way through several quite steep sections where the path was entirely covered by snow, we were met by some other hikers who recommended turning back because it was even more steep and snow-covered further ahead.

Thank you. We will be there the last week in August, so snow hopefully won’t be an issue.

Many thanks for the good information. We aren’t arriving in the area until the end of August and will keep an eye out for an update.

    Hi RK

You have 3 options to get to First.

From Wengen you can take the cable car to Mannlichen then a bus to Grindelwald and cable car to First, probably not a good option if you are pressed for time and walking to Schynige Platte.

2nd option is a train from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald and then cable car to First. This is the most scenic but not covered by the STP if you have one but you do get a discount.

3rd option is train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen then to Grindelwald and cable car to First. Similar to the route you will take after coming down from SP, this will be covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.

It is a fairly long hike so you should be sure to reach SP before the last train leaves, about 6:20 PM i believe.

Also as you approach the last leg to SP it is well worth taking the Panaramaweg route as It is spectacular scenery with mountains on the left and the Interlaken lakes on the right and it only adds about 20-30 minutes.
