Hello Anna and all at MySwissAlps!

We will be in Switzerland the 28 days in the month of August and intend to buy 2 – 15 day Swiss Travel Passes

    Our itinerary:

2 days Zurich, 3 days Lucerne, 4 days Murren, 6 days Wengen, 2 days Montreux, 2 days Bern, 1 day to Chur to get the Bernina Express the next day to include train and bus on to Lugano for 3 days and back to Zurich for 2 days.

While staying at the Beausite Park in Wengen, we get a Jungfrau pass for those days included with our room.

We understand in Murren we will have to pay a discounted rate for mountain transport.

We want to take boats around Lake Lucerne including to the cogwheel train up to Pilates, Lake Geneva and Lake Lugano and understand them to be free included with the STP. However, when we look up these boats on MySwissAlps and other sites, we see tours and passes being sold to include different packages and sometimes food etc. How do we know which boat to go to and or reserve that is included with our STP?

Thank you in advance for your response!

    Linda Neubig

All the boats on the major Swiss lakes are free to board with STP: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

You will see a few special ‘cruises’ such as evening dinner cruise which is a ‘special event’ – but it is not necessary to do this. Normal day to day travel on boats is ‘walk on’.

Thank you so much. Would this include sunset cruise for normal day to day travel….without food etc. just a cruise? And would it be just walk on, no reservation?

I’m not sure if you have seen a particular reference to a named ‘Sunset Cruise’ and on what lake.

Nevertheless, I have studied the Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and Vierwaldstaedtersee (Lake Luzern) timetables. On both lakes there are boats that run at the end of the day and would end their runs in the dark, and in neither case can I see any note about them being restricted, so they operate as regular transport services.

With valid STP, you can walk in cruise at anytime of day (sunset) as per cruise schedule. You can have dinner at extra charge as well.

    Hi Linda,

That’s right. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass you can simply walk on to any boats: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. For special cruises, the STP will give a you a reduction on the ticket price but you might have to pay additional for the meals and other services.
