Hi! If I only have 4 days in mid August staying at Wengen and would like to check out one of the lakes in Interlaken, which one is a better choice since I don’t have that much time? Brienzersee or Thunersee? I am planning to get the regional pass to go on the boat trip for free on one of these lakes.

Hi Xtine and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You mean you have limited time on 1 day during your trip to do one of those lake cruises? Both shorter and longer cruises can be done on either lake. I think Lake Thun is my choice in general.

Schedules can be found for both cruises on the timetables above (under more on other websites).

Thank you, Lucas! I just want to choose one lake as I think they should be around the same and do not want to spend too much time on the lakes alone. Will take up your choice of Lake Thun! Is it more scenic?

I think so – a little more anyway, plus I like the town of Thun. 🙂

If you’ve got a regional pass you can do a round trip using a combination of boats and buses.

Thank you, Lucas and Gunzel for your replies! Just realized from the weather forecast that it will be raining during the time when I am there (8/12-8/16). So is it still wise to go up to Jungfraujoch or I won’t be seeing anything much up there? And if it rains, probably no hiking. So anything else to do when it rains?

It rarely or ever rains all day. Those simple forecasts you see on Google etc show rain for the day if any rain may fall at some point that day. Often you get short showers in the early morning or late afternoon. Maybe just 1-2mm.

The forecast for mountains is not reliable until 48 hours before at the best. You’ll see the forecast change 6 times between now and then probably!

Thank you for the info, Lucas! By the way, how cold is it up in Jungfraujoch at this time? Do we need winter jacket when we are up there or just a fleece sweater is enough?

It is currently 8 degrees at the top at 10am and I think that is about average in the summer. Could be 0 and could be 12 or 13 at a high I think. I’d just have a sweater and a windbreaker or rain jacket but not a winter coat. Layers are always best.
