Should I buy a half fare pass before I get to Switzerland or at the Zurich station on arrival? I understand buying it before I arrive will avoid possible lineups. I understand it would be a paper pass (either print-at-home or mailed to me). Is there a problem with only having a paper pass (not a card)? I’ve read that some stations will not be manned and you would need a plastic pass with a strip so you couldn’t use your paper pass.

    Hi Helene,

Even though it is called a card, it is always a piece paper, regardless of where you buy it. You do not need a card to access stations.

You’ll find the purchase options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/price.

Buying in advance is the most convenient option. You can skip the ticket office and buy your discounted tickets from the machines or online.

    Have a good trip!
