Cash or credit card in Wengen area?

We’ll be spending a week in Wengen during August and will use a Half Fare Card for travel to and from the airport and for local travel. Do we need to bring much Swiss cash or can we predominantly rely on our credit card. For instance can we pay for travel between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen by credit card, and is there a minimum credit card spend in the Wengen Coop? We’ll bring some cash, but how much would you recommend for two people for a week. Thanks in advance.

Hi Les Arcs and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Have a read through our facts and suggestions about the Swiss France and credit card payment here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swissfranc

Essentially it is always good to have some cash on you. Maybe 100chf should always be on you for cases where a small restaurant won’t accept credit cards.

Sometimes there is a minimum spend at stores, but it varies from 3-5chf usually. No minimum at Coop that I’ve noticed.

Through our stay in Wengen we used cash only twice – locker when we left our laggage and the Trummbach falls only accepts cash when you buying tickets.
