I have calculated the main trips, gondola ride, cable car and all with the following but it doesn't look much difference.

Option 1

Swiss travel pass (flex) (4 days, first 2 days and last 2 days) CHF 323 + Swiss Half Fare (for whole 8 days) CHF 120

Total = CHF 443

Adding main activities (stated as approx.)

Day 1 - Mt. Pilatus = CHF 50

Day 2 - Mt. Titlis = CHF 50

Day 3 - Brienz Rothorn Bahn = CHF 50

Day 4 - Grindelwald to Eigergletscher = CHF 50

Day 4 - Grindelwald to Grindewald First = CHF 50

Day 5 - Schilthorn = CHF 50

Day 6 - Glacier Paradise = CHF 50

Day 7 - Extra ride = CHF 50

Day 8 - free train to Zurich

Total = 400

Grand Total (Option 1) = CHF 843 per person for 8 days

Option 2

Swiss Half Fare Pass (For whole 8 days) CHF 120 and Berner Oberland Pass (4 days) CHF 175

Total CHF 275

Now adding Day 1, Day 2 and Day 5, Day 6, Day 7 = CHF 250

Plus train ride, Zurich airport - Lucerne (Return) / Interlaken - GoldenPass (Return) / Zurich Airport - Appenzell (Return) / Interlaken OST - Zermatt (Return) / some little train rides = Total approx. CHF 300

Grand Total (Option 2) CHF 825

so,

Grand Total (Option 1) = CHF 843 per person for 8 days

Grand Total (Option 2) = CHF 825 per person for 8 days

1. is CHF 800 normal or too much expensive per person for 8 days?

2. Which option is better? (Option 1 flexible almost everywhere for 8 days and option 2 flexible around Berner Oberland areas for 4 days)

3. Btw, if we just want to take Gornergrat train to see Matterhorn instead of Glacier Paradise, do we have to go to Zermatt or just arrive at Gornergrat? (From Interlaken) and from there take Gornergrat train?

Hi Hamal Hero,

Thanks for sharing your travel costing. Personally I think CHF800 ++ per person is reasonable for 8 days. If you're planning to spend most of your trip in the Bernese Oberland, it might be more practical to get the Berner Oberland Pass in combination with a Swiss Half Fare Card. With the Berner Oberland Pass, you can avoid buying tickets for most of your mountain excursions. The Berner Oberland Pass also provides flexibility to travel for free to other attractions in the region in case of poor weather or last minute changes. In addition, with the Swiss Half Fare Card, you can benefit from cheaper Saver Day Pass and Supersaver tickets instead of buying standard tickets.

About the day trip to Zermatt, for your information Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise are two different mountains. Both are located in Zermatt. To get to the top of Gornergrat, you need to take a cogwheel train up. The valley station is located just across the road from the train station. You can find further details here: www.myswissalps.com/gornergrat/gettingthere

To get to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, you need to take a series of cable cars and gondolas. The valley station is located about 10-15 mins walk from the Zermatt train station. You can also take a bus there. More details about the access here: www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn/gettingthere

It's possible to combine trips to Gornergrat and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in one day. But it you prefer a relaxing day trip, it's best to pick just one.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Anna
