    Hi

Thank you in advance for help from forum members

My friend will travel to Switzerland (22-Dec to 25-Dec), Paris (26-Dec to 28-Dec) and Amsterdam (29-Dec to 2-Jan)

The couple in their late 20S will visit for their honeymoon and plan to stay in Lucerne / Interlaken. They are not interested in winter activities / hiking but easy sightseeing

What are options for them. Also whether they can visit Chrismas markets. Whether there will be public holidays and sightseeing / shopping will be closed

They will travel to Paris on 5th day when their Swiss Pass will not be valid. What is best way to travel from Lucerne / Interlaken to Paris by train

I understand that this is Swiss forum but can any forum members throw any insights on sightseeing in Paris and Amsterdam

    Thank you again

    Chetan

    Hi Chetan,

In general, shops and some Christmas markets remain open until the 24th of December during the festive week. 25th and 26th December are public holidays so most establishments are likely closed on these 2 days. You can find further information about Christmas markets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/christmasmarkets

In addition to Christmas markets, your friends might be interested in doing mountain excursions during their short stay here. Some options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/naturalsites/mountains/winter

There are regular trains services from Switzerland to Paris. You can find important ticket and travel information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Thank you

So it means we can have sight seeing options but no shopping options on 25th and 26th December (but visit mountain excursion or have lake cruise)

For mountain visits should we check livecam for weather the way we checked in Spring

We have visited Europe in May hence no idea about visiting in winter

    Hi again,

Yes, I would recommend checking the weather forecast and the mountain webcams before buying your tickets.

By the way, the shops at Zurich and Lucerne train stations are open all-year round including public holidays if you need to buy food items or souvenirs.

    Hi Chetan,

Nice that you’re helping your friends plan their itinerary. Maybe the below tips add some more information:

Note that our Christmas market page (http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/christmasmarkets) still contains the 2021 dates. However, more and more dates for the 2022 are becoming available now, so we’ll update that page in the coming week or so.

Recommended purchase options for the Swiss Travel Pass can be found at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price.
