Hi. We arrive in Zurich airport at 1530 and need to be in interlaken by next night. I accept its subjective but would you/anyone have any thoughts. We could stay night in Zurich or Bern. We will have a case and back packs. . We may leave case in Zurich to meet up with in interlaken or out in storage in station locker. We are senior citizens with reduced mobility so can’t walk or carry too much.

    1. So should we see stay in Zurich and see station and city markets in Zurich evening and next morning and then go straight to interlaken.

    2. Stay Zurich and see city markets at night and as passing through station next day see that one and go in to Bern. See one of those and go on to interlaken.

3.. See just Zurich train station market in passing and then go on to Bern for night and see their evening market and the other in the morning and then go on to Interlaken.

I guess what I’m asking is which are the better markets to see between Zurich and Bern and/or which would be more impressive at night? I have read in your site all I can about markets and followed links as well as internet searches but a personal, though subjective view, would be interesting.

later on we hope to go to Montreux and Basel to see their markets. Otherwise we are travelling by train round Switzerland to see mountain scenery and snow via Zematt and St Moritz. 70th Birthday trip.

I hope this is clear. Thank you.

You’re doing this on Christmas Day? If not, which days?

    Hi Tijoco!

I understand you’ve been doing a lot of research already and are looking for personal advice. Unfortunately I haven’t visited those markets myself, so I’m not of much help here. Our forum member Maggie wrote an excellent report on several Christmas markets though, and you may value her opinion: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/maggies-december-trip-report.

If you feel like it’s hard to choose, I’d start off with the markets in Zurich on the afternoon and evening of your arrival. At least visit the one in the Old Town, which I expect to be cosier than the one in the rail station. Then spend the night in Zurich (http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/hotels) and head for Bern the next day. After your Christmas market visit there, you can reach Interlaken in less than an hour (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable). Here’s information on carrying along or shipping luggage: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/practical/luggage.
