Hi, We are planning to go to Mt. Rigi from Lucerne in July. My itinerary is take boat from Lucerne to Vitznau (3:12pm to 4:09pm) and then taking next train to Rigi Kulm (4:15pm to 4:47pm). My question is if 6 minutes connection time (between 4:09pm and 4:15pm) is enough to get off boat at Vitznau and catch the cogwheel train at 4:15pm (6 minutes to connect) or should we take later train? We would have Swiss Travel Pass, thanks!

Hello farazrasheed and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

The train station is very close to the boat dock. But you need to show your Swiss Travel Pass at the ticket office at the train station to get a free Rigi ticket.

There may or may not be a queue. You should be OK but if you miss the 4:15 just take the next one.

Which way are you planning to return? The last train down to Vitznau and the last cable car Rigi Kaltbad down to Weggis are quite late but if you plan to go down via Arth Goldhau the last train down departs 19:04.

Thanks rockoyster, we are planning to take the train or cable car from Rigi to Arth Goldau at 6:04 pm that reaches there at 6:50pm to catch our train to Milan at 7:50pm. If we miss the 4:15pm train, the next one wouldn’t allow us enough time at the mountain. Perhaps we should take an earlier train up the Mt. Rigi

That would make sense and give yourself a bit more time up top.

    Hi arazrasheed

From the boat to the train takes approximately 33 seconds, +/- 6.35 seconds.

More if you are last in line off the boat, or have to buy another ticket, or have a lot of luggage. Within reason, they ‘ll wait for you

    Don’t worry about the connection.

Most people would be descending in mid afternoon so I doubt there would be a big queue

you can see how it looks by searching web images for Vitznau VRB
