Hi there, my wife and I and 2 children ( ages 20 & 17 ) will visit and be based at Lucerne during a 5 day trip from the 23rd-27th December 2016 and would be grateful if you could kindly advise on the most cost effective travel based on the following itinerary;

Day1, Travel by train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne

Day2, Travel to and fro by train from Lucerne to Engelberg with a plan to visit Mount Titlis

Day3, Travel to and fro by boat and train to Mount Rigi Klum

Day4, No travel plans

Day5, Travel by train from Lucerne to Zurich Airport

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi ACDXB! Thanks for joining MySwissAlps.

For your itinerary, a Tell Pass Winter might be most appropriate. The Swiss Half Fare Card is worth your consideration as well, especially if you plan to visit another area (other than the immediate Lake Lucerne surroundings) on day 4. Here's how to calculate which pass suits your plans best: myswissalps.com/train/ ticketspasses/practica l/chooserailpass.

Dear Annika, many thanks for your prompt response. Having reviewed the options which you have mentioned it would appear the TELL PASS WINTER would be the best option. Considering the delivery by courier company is not guaranteed before we travel, can you kindly advise if we can purchase these tickets at Lucerne train station when we arrive in Lucerne. Thanks again for your kind assistance. Archie.

Hello ACDXB,

Sure, you can buy it locally too (see myswissalps.com/tellpa sswinter/price), however in that case you can't use it for your incoming trip to Lucerne. The section from Baar/Zug to Lucerne is covered by the pass.
