I’m currently residing in Switzerland and got myself a day pass for residents. It allows for unlimited travel on trains, buses and boats for 24 hours (http://www.ch.ch/en/1-day-travel-passes-commune/). I will use it to visit Zermatt to see the Matterhorn. Can I get a discount on the Gornergrat Bahn with this one day pass?

Hi yjmozzz and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, you get a 50% discount with the 1 day travel pass if it covers all of Switzerland (seems so) and if you also have the Swiss half-fare Travelcard (residents only) (this is a requirement for most 1 day travel passes, but I am not 100% sure about this one).

You can find more information on the regular version of this pass here (including a map of validity).

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Lucas,

Thank you for your reply! However, I think the one day pass that I got is exclusively for residents as I don’t have to own a half-fare card in order to use it. The website says the day pass is a ‘second-class non-personal travel card, formerly called Flexicard’. Hence I’m confused whether the area of validity and discounts are the same as the 1 day travel pass you mentioned.

    Thank you!!

    Hi Yjmozzz,

You may very well be right about that. To be honest, I don’t know either as we focus on the products that can be used by tourists. If there are no clear instructions included I’d recommend to ask the organization you purchased from. They should be able to help you out.

In any case, have a wonderful travel day with your pass!
