Our family of 4 hope to be in Lucerne from Dec 24-30th, 2018. Is it reasonable for us to try to ski on one of those days as a day trip from our central Lucerne hotel? We are experienced but not expert skiers . We would try to bring our ski clothes but not our equipment with us.Is there enough snow in late December to ski near Lucerne? Is this something we can decide once we are there, or will we need to plan a specific day?

any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi Pogo and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, skiing is something you can decide on once you are there. For the best chance of a good amount of snow look at Titlis: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti tlis as it is the highest mountain.

There are others in the region you could look at as well, depending on snow conditions. But late December should be pretty safe for skiing on most any mountain.

    Thank you.!

Have looked a bit at the links. follow up questions:

Appears it is 45-60 min train to the ski area from Lucerne. Correct?

Is ski equipment rental available onsite once you are at Engelberg or part way up the mountain at Trusbee? ( would love to avoid having to transport ski equipment on the train).

I ski rental is available at the Titlis ski area, as well as in town, any recommendations on better place to rent?

    Thanks again!

Titlis is about 75 minutes from Lucerne (check timetable for your specific travel day but schedules for late December aren’t released until mid- October).

Ski rentals can be done in Engelberg for sure – that is where I’d do it, but I don’t have any personal recommendations on stores there.

There are a few you can find on the internet, like Intersport.

Some links to packages including transportation and gear can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti tlis/packages.
