Hi becmcentire,
It is possible, but it’s a long day on the train. You could go to Zermatt via Kandersteg. This is the RegioExpress Lötschberger and you would do a part of the Glacier Express as well. This takes 4h18. When using the Swiss train timetable to plan your trip make sure to put Kandersteg in the via box.
The fastest way back is 3h12, but you could also take the Golden Pass route which takes 5h42. If you would like to take the Golden Pass, make sure to put Zweisimmen in the via box of the timetable.
If you don’t fancy being on the train all day, you can also do a part of the Golden Pass route: Interlaken – Lucerne and back.

Hi Chantal,
I think your Golden Pass as a suggested return from Zermatt to Wengen would take over 7 hours if you mean going Zermatt – Montreux – Zweisimmen – Wengen.

You are right. I forgot to fill in Montreux in the via box. Well, that would be a very long day on the train.
