We already have 3 nights hotel accommodation in Zurich. What day trips/itineraries are best to see most of zurich and close towns/alps? Would we benefit if we buy Day Pass for 3 days?

Hi Malou and welcome to MySwissAlps!

There are quite a lot of options as day trips from Zurich, it depends what you would like to see and how far you are prepared to travel.

Perhaps you can start with: http://www.myswissalps.com/la kezurich

Some of the more scenic parts of Switzerland (in the Bernese Oberland for instance) can also be done as day trips: http://www.myswissalps.com/be rneseoberland

To see the time and duration of the journeys, you can use the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

If you prefer to stay close, Uetliberg is a nice place to visit as a day trip from Zurich.

The travel pass you choose will depend on what locations and activities you decide to undertake. Once you have a better idea of the itinerary, you can choose the best travel pass accordingly: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

Hope this helps, I am sure others will have suggestions as well.

    Maria.

Thank you so much for your reply, Maria! I have more questions,

    1. Is it worth getting Swiss Rail Pass or Swiss Half Fare card if we are just staying for 3 days?

    2. Are the transportation 24 hours? If we go for a scenic train ride, can we still go back to our hotel in Zurich even if it’s late? Thank you!

    Hi Malou,

    1. The best pass (if any) depends on your final itinerary. You’ll need to decide what you are doing / where you are going first. Then you can compare costs of tickets and rail passes. Look here for more info: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass
    2. No. Typically trains will run between 5am and midnight or 1am. The timetable from Maria will tell you all the options for the routes you are looking for.
