Guys, We are planning to spend a day in & around Murren and wanted to do a reality check to see if we are putting too much into a day… We will have the Swiss Travel Pass with us 🙂

We want to spend some time doing a couple of trails , The blumental panorama trail and the flower trail and then allow kiddos to spend time at the Allmendhubel “Flower Park” playground before returning back to Wengen after lunch at either in Murren or Lauterbrunnen.

With the Allmendhubel funicular under maintenance are these trails & playground doable ?

This is the route we were planning to take –

    1. Wengen to Lauterbrunnen by train (CHF – Zero)

    2. Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp by cable car (CHF – Zero)

    3. Grutschalp to Murren by cog wheel (CHF – Zero)

    4. Do the trails & spend time in the playground if we can

    5. Murren to Wengen (same way back)

    Thanks as always !

    Hello,

We did a very similar trip to Murren two days ago. Up to Murren. Walk to Grimelwald (Stunning views), lift back up to Murren, walk around Murren, then lift to Birg (Trill walk around the cliff was fun) and Schilthorn. Plenty of time to do everything, and all free on the Swiss Travel Pass. Stunning area and makes good use of the Swiss Travel Pass (82 chf saving on Schilthorn alone). Have a great trip!!

Hi Ina, yes you can still do that trail without the funicular running to Allmendhubel. Though I believe most people travel up in the funicular and walk down usually.

and the trains / cable cars are otherwise running.

Lucas, thanks and going up on the funicular to Allmendhubel and then walking into the town of Murren does look to be a better idea 🙂

Would anyone know when will the funicular reopen for the season ? Also, what would be the cost of using it with the Swiss pass ?

    Thanks Ina

Galaxystars thanks for sharing your good experience 🙂 I just wanted to confirm if you meant the trail from Murren to the town of “Gimmelwald” and not Grindelwald. The hike from Murren to Grindelwald seems too far :)..

    Thanks !

The funicular reopens June 23 and will cost 7chf with the Swiss Travel Pass (50% off).

I’m sure GalaxyStars meant Gimmelwald. 🙂

Thanks Lucas ! Looks like we will miss using the funicular this time then, as we will back @home at that time 🙂

How hard is the hike to Allmendhubel via Murren back to Murren ? Really wanted to experience the bluementhal hike ….

    Thanks

    Hi Ina,

Definitely Gimmelwald. Nice easy hike down of about 30 minutes or so. Chair lift back up if preferred. We hiked back up. About 45 -55 minutes and steep all the way up. The views were definitely better going down too. I Estimate the Hike to Allmendhuble would be similar or only slightly further. Looks like it’s a similar altitude gain. Have a wonderful trip….
