“Zermatt is not big enough for you to need local transportation other than getting on the mountain tops and that for sure is not free.”

    Hi J Lewis222,.

No, unfortunately a visitor card for free local transport use is not provided by hotels in Zermatt (https://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/hotels).

For your information, Zermatt is fairly small and compact. Everything is within walking distance. More information on how to get around in Zermatt here: http://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/travel

    Regards,

    Anna

Thanks Pvonk, I was looking at this Swiss Chalet that seems to be up a long hill, thought maybe I could catch a ride.

We stayed there several years ago – absolutely wonderful place. It is up a short steep hill from the main street. Ask if they will come get you at the train station. They met us , we had sent them our schedule. Also made arrangements for them to transport us back to the station with luggage at the end of our stay.

It appears that the electric busses in Zermatt are now free. I just pulled this information (and translated via Google translate) from Zermatt’s web site:

    E-bus operation – free use

From the summer timetable change (25.04.2022: Winkelmatten line or 01.05.2022: Bergbahnen line), the municipality of Zermatt will introduce free use of the e-bus for everyone – i.e. the practice during the COVID period now also applies in the post-Covid Time.
