We will be driving rental car from Lake Como, Italy to Davos, Switzerland on June 7 and staying in Davos for 4 nights( free accomodations) and will drive back to Milan on June the 11 to spend the night and fly out on June 12. My questions are

    1. Is it possible to work in a long, long day trip to Bernese Oberland Region on the way to Davos, or as a day trip once we get to Davos?

    2. Since We will have 3 full days in Davos, what day trips would be recommended ? We are all about scenery, lakes, mountains passes , small villages, Using rental car, trains or a combination of both . Thank you for any suggestions!

    Hi mbgreenway,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Here’s some input on your itinerary.

When driving the car through Switzerland, look into these links for input:

Of course it is possible to fit in this, correctly recognised, long day trip to the Bernese Oberland, both by train or car would work. Alternatively you can consider staying a night on the way towards Davos to explore an extra area.

    Hope this supports your planning.

    Hi mbgreenway,

Last summer, in late August, in my first Swiss trip, I rented a car in Lugano, fairly near Como, to go to the St. Moritz area. I so enjoyed driving in the Alps, that I’m returning in the last two weeks of June to repeat my Alps driving adventure. The first thing to realize is how short distances and driving times are in the Swiss Alps. A good source for driving times between destinations is Google Maps. Also Street View on Google Maps shows you exactly what the villages feel like and their aesthetic potential. Let me know if you have other questions about driving in the Alps. As far as driving from Davos to the Jungfrau, that is one of the more difficult ‘as the crow fly’ routes because in the Alps, most of the roads are roughly North to South. East to West itineraries are above or below the central mountain ranges. But do consider locations in the Eastern Alps, The Engaden region, for one.

    RE question 1:

I don’t recommend either option. Davos is in Eastern Switzerland and the Berner Oberland is to the west of centre of Switzerland. It’s quite a long drive between the two and wouldn’t give you much time at destination.
