    Hi all,

I am travelling to Engelberg between (Dec 23rd-26) with my husband and a 8 yr old boy .I am visiting Lucerne, Mt Titlis(close to my hotel) and Zurich Rhine falls on the 23rd and 25th.I am not sure what I can do on Dec 24th.I was thinking of taking a rail to see the Jungfraujoch via any rail tours?I looked at some escorted rail tours on viator, quite expensive, are they worth it?They all start from Lucerne which is not far from Engelberg. Could some one suggest-

-What is the best way to travel from/to Engelberg for just that one day to Jungraujoch ?

    – Is a return rail ticket available for one day?Are there any express trains?

    – If not Jungraujoch, where else can I travel on that day from Engelberg?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Hi Sindhu and welcome to MySwissAlps!

So you could either take a tour (if that’s what you want) or take a train independently to Jungfraujoch. Either way it is quite expensive and a very long day from Engelberg. Use the timetable here to plan out your independent trip.

There are closer mountains as well as other activities in the Luzern area you could look into as well. You could travel anywhere you like from Engelberg; but my suggestion would be to look at a mountain excursion as most towns will be closed down for Christmas.

    Hi Lucas,

Thanks for the suggestion. Is point to point ticket the only option for my travel from Engelberg-Lucerne?From here I was thinking of a tour to Jungrafraou with viator.com. I am not sure if I can get a supersaver day pass return from Engelberg-Lucerne? Could you give some suggestions on this?

You would need either a point to point ticket or a supersaver (if as you say, one can be found). Those are best if these are your only planned trips on your own.

The only other option is a rail pass which is often a good way to save money if you are traveling regularly during your trip here (over a period of 3 + days). If you plan on using tours rather than travel on your own a rail pass is probably not the best choice to save money.

Thanks Lucas. .Looking at the distance its better I go somewhere near in Lucerne. This is a one off trip so a point to point ticket will be best.

Yes, there are some great mountains too near Luzern – see my link from my first post for a list.
Each mountain has a page on how to buy tickets online (or buy them as you go at the rail station from Engelberg).

    Have a great trip!
