Can I use Eurail pass (2 countries) on local trains in Swiss and France? I am spending 5 days in Paris and 5 days in Swiss (Lucerne, Oberland area). I will be taking the train from Paris to Lucerne. Is the Eurail the best pass to cover my travel from Paris to Lucerne and locally in Paris and Swiss?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Samo,

The type of train (regional or express etc) doesn’t matter for rail tickets- only the route you are taking. You can see maps of the routes by rail passes cover here:

    https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass/ validity
    https://www.myswissalp s.com/eurailselectpass /validity

To know which rail pass is the best for your specific itinerary you need to plan out all trips you will make (train, bus, boat, cable car) and compare the prices for regular tickets to the rail pass price (and which routes/mountains are free or discounted). Once you have that information you can read our page here on how to choose the best rail pass. There is a spreadsheet there to help with the math. 🙂

I would expect, with only two trips in France, the Swiss Travel Pass is your better option – doing the math as explained above is the only way to know for sure.

    Hi Samo,

The Swiss leg is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass: Basel – Lucerne. For Paris – Basel you’d buy a regular ticket: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/france/pric e. You can download the map of what’s covered from Lucas’s link, so you can verify everything yourself.
