Hello, we are returning to Wengen for our 5 th visit from Australia in June.

We always buy a Swiss half price card. This year we are trying to work out if a Eurorail Global 10 day pass will be better, as we are travelling Zurich to Wengen, Wengen to London, London to Nice and Nice to Zurich by train. Does anyone know if you get a discount or free with the pass for the cable cars around Wengen and Murren? thanks in advance Jan

You only get 25% discount on any travel south of Interlaken (in the Jungfrau Region) with the Eurail Global Pass. Have a look at the map at http://www.myswissalps.com/eu railglobalpass/validit y.

From memory there is a sign at Interlaken Ost saying “Eurail not Valid on these lines” or something like that . What it means is you can’t just wave your Eurail Pass end expect to get to Wengen without buying a 25% discounted ticket even to get to Lauterbrunnen.

Depending how long you’re in the area one of the regional passes may suit.

    Hi Jan,

Great you are coming back to Switzerland! If you want the best value for money, it might be worth spending a little time mapping out your exact itinerary and use of cable cars and choosing the best pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

Depending on the days you are planning to travel to London, you could also benefit from a Swiss Travel Pass Flex: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpassflex

Or Eurail Global Pass and point-to-point tickets or a regional pass as Rockoyster suggests: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland. However specially if you know the area, I’m sure you have a good idea of what travel you are planning in Wengen and can make a realistic assessment.

For regional passes, you may benefit from this one in particular: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass

    Good luck planning your trip!

    Maria.
