Exploring Bernese Oberland from Bern

Is BERN, instead of Interlaken, also a good base option to explore the Bernese Oberland? Thanks.

Hello Rodger PF,
Bern is not actually located IN the Bernese Oberland, in comparison to Interlaken, which is.

However, places are fairly close and easily reachable by public transport, as you will see by checking the timetable below:

There are other alternatives to stay, too, like Thun and many more.

Is there a specific reason you DON’T want to stay in Interlaken.
Best,
Steph
Thank you. I am fine with Interlaken as a base.

This is an odd answer to your question, because, as its name implies, Bern gives its name to Bernese Oberland. Many visitors to Switzerland are from much larger countries, and don’t realise how small Switzerland is (some size comparisons below).
Bern is a perfectly good base for the Bernese Oberland – and also to take advantage of other beautiful areas around Bern . You can have easy days out in the Bernese Oberland from Bern. The nearest part of the Bernese Oberland is about 20 minutes from Bern
Some facts giving size comparisons:
Switzerland = 41,285 km2 (15,940 sq mi)
State of New York = 141,300 km2 (54,555 sq mi)
Great Britain = 209,331 km2 (80,823 sq mi)
Canton Bern (including Bern and the Bernese Oberland): 5,959.59 km2 (2,301.01 sq mi)
New York Metropolitan Area: 8,936 km2 (3,450.2 sq mi )
