Hi,my family, 2 adults, 2 children 11-15 and one 10 year old will be purchasing the 3zone day pass, we are staying at Kloten and looking to come into Zurich HB. Would very much appreciate a suggested itinerary for 3pm on day 1 into day 2.

Also are the Limmat River buses part of the ZVV Day pass zone listed above. Is there any supplement that needs to be paid?

Read about the polybahn and also the funicular to Dolderbahn, are those also covered by the 3 zone pass we buy or are they in different zones? TQ

Hello Sfarell and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming to the Zurich area with your family.

If you are staying in Kloten and exploring Zurich City you will get a ticket for the zones 110 (Zurich City, counts as 2zones) and 121 (Kloten). You can find that information on the last page of the brochure I’m attaching.

The Limmat River boats operate from April – October and are included in the zone 110. This is not the case for most boats on the Lake of Zurich. See:

The Polybahn funicular and the Dolderbahn cogwheel train are also both covered by that ticket and operate all year round.

Hope this answers your question. Get back to us anytime for further input.

    Best,
    Steph

Thank you Steph for your informative reply, glad that both the polybahn and cogwheel train come within the zones and are covered by the pass.

Would anyone have suggestions on what route we should take to make the most of our trip and see as much as we can within the 3 zone ticket? We have between 3pm on day 1 to afternoon the next day.

    Hi Sfarell,

at http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/activities you can find lots of activities and also guided tours. If you have just one day, a short guided tour can be a good idea. (For example this one: https://www.viator.com /tours/Zurich/Zurich-Old-Town-Walking-Tour) If you do not wish to take a guided tour you can just walk around the Old Town.

Here is a walking route that I highly recommend: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/zurich/route.

In Zurich do not miss the Bahnhofstrasse (see the link in Steps’s previous answer) and the Lake Zurich. From the Lindenhof hill you’ll have a nice view. If you like monuments like churches, visit Grossmünster and Fraumünster too.

    Hi SFarell-

If I were you, I’d stay in downtown Zürich. Many trains per hour to/from airport, no need to wait for hotel shuttle schedules, a much wider range of hotel prices and styles, and ambience that is really nice.

I’ve done both many times since my first trip to Switzerland in 1980, and staying downtown is (usually) cheaper, and a lot more interesting.

    My opinion, anyway. 😉
