We are an adult family of 6 and looking for a home base of 5 nights so we don’t have to keep packing and moving since we are coming from Barcelona and finishing in Paris. After reading several posts it seems Lauterbrunnen would be a good choice for us as a home base? I have put a van on hold as our car for the week at $560 and was thinking that may be the best choice for us and just use trains to get to the car free places we want to visit? Or should we skip a car and get Swiss pass instead? Or maybe a Eurail pass will cover all? Excited! Thanks!

Hi Keelewinter and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

If you're visiting the Jungfrau region, I highly recommend the train, as it is much easier to travel by train in the region.

Usually we recommend the trains as the Swiss public system is amazing and effective. Check this out, this might help your decision too: www.myswissalps.com/carversustrain

To make sure, you should make calculations. At www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass you'll find a spreadsheet, that will help you to do the math. To be able to choose a rail pass, you should know your itinerary first.

Eurail Global Pass would be also a great pass for you if you travel by train a lot outside of Switzerland too. Are you coming from Barcelona by train? And are you going to travel to Paris by train?

Check the validity map of the Swiss Travel Pass and the Eurail Global Pass here:

If you tell us more about your itinerary we can help you better.

Regards,

Ildiko

Thanks for your reply. Yes coming from Barcelona by train and then leaving Switzerland to Paris by train.

Hi Keelewinter,

I agree with Ildiko. If you are travelling by train in multiple countries, it might be practical to get the Eurail Global Pass. And depending on your itinerary in the Jungfrau region, you might want to consider getting the Jungfrau Travel Pass too.

Regards,

Anna
