My wife and I , a retired couple living in the USA, love Switzerland, our most favorite place to visit and also your AWESOME MySwissAlps website!! We travel Switzerland and Europe always by train! Your staff here was very gracious to give us advise on where we can purchase a Global EuRail Pass, but in planning for which pass we should buy this site or other Rall Planner apps don’t provide all the routes or cost information we need.

Our belated 25th anniversary trip, (cancelled by Covid), celebrating our first meeting in Dusseldorf Germany some 27 years ago, now starts in May2022 with a Rhine river cruise Amsterdam to Basel, then motor coach to Lake Como Hilton. Our full itinerary after this is:

    Lake Como to Zurich-2 nights

Zurich to Freiburg-Breisgau, Germany- 3 nights

Freiburg-Breisgau, Germany to Rudesheim am Rhein via Frankfurt to Mainz to Bingen with boat to Rudesheim-3 nights

Rudesheim am Rhein/Bingen to Dusseldorf Main Station-3 nights

Our train trip starts at Como S. Giovanni station in Italy traveling to Zurich Main station on the RE80 to Lugano and the IC2 to Zurich, but none of the sites show any prices for this trip, including the SSB Mobile site. (train data from Google Maps).

We are also traveling from Freiburg-Breisgau to Rudesheim/Bingen and even the BD Navigator site does not show this route or pricing.

With 4 main travel days in less than a 1 month time frame we beleive purchasing a Eurail Global Pass, 4day in 1 month, senior pass for 2 passengers, purchased before Aug 31st/2021 to take advantage of the 10% discount being offered would be our best option.

Please confirm if there are any web sites that can help us with individual route costs, train routes and any advise on which pass would be best for us to purchase.

We are both traveling with unlocked iphones and need to purchase international SIM cards. Can you suggest which SIM card would be best for Europe and Canada. We had previoulsy used JT Travel/Telestial’s, Global Sim, but unfortunately they recently closed their business due to Covid.

Thank you again for all your wonderful help and advise.

Take care and stay healthy during these times.

    Sincerely,

    Bryan & Susan

    Hi Bryan and Susan,

I’m happy about your enthusiasm about Switzerland and our website! The process of finding the best pass and compare pass/ticket prices is explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. It assumes traveling within Switzerland but the same approach applies to cross-border travel as well.

Indeed it can be challenge to find prices for international tickets. I recommend to click the country you’re traveling to/from on this page: http://www.myswissalps.com/travel/toswitzerland/train/tickets. Then on the next page, click to the Price tab. You’ll find ticket retailers listed there; you’ll be able to find prices on their websites.

As for SIM cards, please find our recommendations here: http://www.myswissalps.com/simcard

    Happy planning!
