If I purchase a 2nd class Swiss Pass Flex, 8 day, can I purchase 1st class seat reservations for long trips and what are the upgrade costs per trip… such as from Zürich to St. Moritz?

HI Albuq and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes you can purchase the upgrade onto 1st class, as you can see here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/practical/2nd1stcl ass

More about upgrades on this thread: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/upgrade-swiss-travel-pass-from-2nd-to-1st-class

You don’t really need seat reservations as there are always seats available in 1st class, you can read more about this on this page: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/reservations

It helps to know what month you’ll be in Switzerland. Come at end of September into October and even 2nd class has lots of space.

Thank you for your informative reply! I will review all and consider my options! I must confess I’m still a bit worried about the upgrades to first class, but the 8 day, 2nd class pass Flex is so much less expensive than 1st class! How far in advance can I book seats and class upgrades? What options do I select to do this? Thanks again, Albuq

Actually we plan on travel in mid-July, hence my concern about seat availability without seat reservations! Thanks.

    Hi Albuq,

Class upgrades for any particular journey don’t sell out. The Swiss Travel Pass Flex does not sell out either but it’s convenient to buy in advance if you’re sure you need it anyway: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpassflex. You can then skip the ticket office on arrival. I’m not sure how much in advance seat reservations can be purchased for the regular trains in Switzerland which don’t require seats. People don’t buy reservations as it’s not needed. I never did and never had to stand in a train apart for 10 minutes in rush hour between Zurich airport and Zurich. Personally I’d avoid reservations if they are not required, as costs can add up quickly with CHF 5 per person per train (from the top of my mind).
