We have finalised our itinerary as follows :

    Lucerne 2 Nights18-20th June

    Wengen 2 Nights 20-22nd June

    Gstaad 1 Night 22-23rd June

    Zermatt 2 Nights 23-25th June

    Montreux 2 Nights 25-27th June

Now, I would want to ask you : For Sightseeing, should we buy tickets on the spot for whatever want to do, or should we buy guided tours in advance online from sites like viator.com or klook.com which seem very expensive. Do we really need guided tours or is self-exploration for a first-time swiss visitor okay ? In Lucerne, we have decided to do Mt Titlis

    Wengen : Jungfraujoch

    Zermatt : Explore Gornergrat

Montreux : Promenade, Charlie’s Museum, Chocolate Factory

Is there anything else which you highly recommend for us (We have a 7 year old kid) which I have not specified above and the kid will love it ? Any scenic trains which fit on the above itinerary.

Hi DP1897 and welcome to MySwissalps!

I don’t think guided tours are necessary but each person has their own comfort level with traveling. you can use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out all of your trips. Connecting on trains is quite straightforward but if you have questions about traveling by train etc please do ask.

Read this link for more details: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train
If you do decide to travel by train have a look at this page about choosing the best rail pass: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

For ideas on what to do in those towns be sure to visit our town pages here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/wheretogo/towns ; click on a town you want to know more about and look at the “what to do” tab.

To Wengen from Lucerne you can travel on the Golden Pass route as far as Interlaken. Then from Wengen to Montreux you are back on the Golden Pass route going via Interlaken and Gstaad).
