Are they self serve? Accept all major credit cards? Read some where you can gas up first and then pay clerk inside? ( Trusting Nation) And some machines take swiss bill/notes?

    Thank you

Switzerland is not unique, nor more ‘trusting’.

Petrol stations in Switzerland are the same as everywhere in Europe. Normally self serve then go into the shop and pay. Out of hours, many Swiss stations have automated self serve pumps that take cards (used to be paper money notes but more often than not it’s cards nowadays like the rest of Europe.

Thanks for quick reply 1960man, rented at Zurich, checked manual on car we are renting, learned my lesson when went down dead end street in Germany and didnt know to shift in reverse for volkswagon you have to push shifter handle down. Was assisted by local politzei who got a kick out of my predicament.

    Thanks again.
