1) Furka and Grimsel are normally open May – November. There shouldn’t be a problem in September – barring a freak early fall of snow (which is rare but not impossible in September).
2) you don’t need to use the Furka pass on a journey from Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt
3) The Grimsel (not Grimmel) pass is lower than the Furka so is even less likely to be problematic in September
4) The car carrying train through the Lötschberg is a fun experience – not a chore – I recommend it as the fastest way to do your planned journey.

I recommend it , too. Not for speed. The Lötschberg Basis Tunnel is faster. Of , course, I do not recommend it either, because of the scenery. Scenery inside the new tunnel is not very interesting. 😉

Ah yes, James Bond. Don’t miss the Schilthorn either, where they filmed “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”: http://www.myswissalps.com/sc hilthorn. The pass will be open in September.

Yes, but I don’t think my rental is an Austin Martin or I’ll be rubbing shoulders with 10 models on top of the Shilthorn…
Thanks again
