Hi, I’m traveling to Geneva next month for 2 days then into Annecy for 2 days. We will need to get from Geneva airport to central Geneva on day 1. on which we will sightsee around the city probably in foot, we would like to take a trip preferably by train on day 2 to see the beautiful scenery of the swiss Alps and possibly one or two beautiful little towns. We will then need to travel from Geneva to Annecy on day 3 and then back from Annecy to Geneva airport on day 5.

Can anyone advise me of the best value way of travelling around, super saver day pass?, swiss travel pass? are these valid for the trip to Annecy etc?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Asmyth16,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

For a trip less than 3 days in Switzerland, getting point-to-point tickets might be the best options for train travel. Depending on your destinations, you could also consider getting a Saver Day Pass. You can find information about point-to-point tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland

Also, you can ask your hotel about the Geneva visitor card which provides free local transport: http://www.myswissalps.com/geneva/travel

For travel and tickets to Annecy, you can find details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

You can use the SBB timetable to check train schedules and plan your journeys: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Regards,

    Anna

If you are staying in a Geneva hotel you should get a guest card that will be valid for your short train journey. For a one day trip ‘to the Swiss Alps’ from Geneva, you need to make an early start as it is some distance to the highest Swiss alps. The closest place with spectacular views which is convenient to reach from Geneva is Rochers de Naye (rack railway up from Montreux). You can get to Zermatt and back in a day but it needs early start and late finish. Point to point or Saver Day Pass plus extra fare would suit for these trips.

For Annecy the majority of the journey is in France. You will need to buy a Leman Express network ticket
