We are 1st time travelers to Switzerland. Flying into Geneva on 07/09/2018 and would like to visit area around Lauterbrunnen for 2 days returning to Geneva on the 3rd day (10/09/2018).

Please share advice on rail versus car rental (ease of access, etc…), suggestions on things not to miss in the region, and what we should expect if we purchase the 3 day Swiss Travel Pass instead of car rental.

We hike and love the outdoors, have travel experience but are just not familiar with Switzerland. We decided to focus just in region around Lauterbrunnen since our time is limited on this trip…Thank You

Hi DJeans and welcome to MySwissAlps!

If you drove a car from Geneva to Lauterbrunnen it would essentially just be parked the whole time.
All the mountains and several towns in the area are car-free so you must take a train or cable car to get there.

We mostly recommend traveling by train over car in Switzerland – much more convenient. Have a read through our comparison here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/carversustrain

You can read through the details of the Swiss Travel Pass here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass. We talk about how to use it, where it is valid and how to buy it online.

For ideas on what to do around Lauterbrunnen (Jungfrau Region) look here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/jungfrauregion/a ctivities

For mountain trips and hiking options it is one of the best areas in Switzerland – certainly the most popular. 🙂

Let us know if you have further questions after you’ve read through the links. And do be sure to use the Swiss railways timetable to plan trips between towns and mountains: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable
