Hi we are currently in Interlaken and leaving for Montreux today, then on to Zermatt. We received notification that due to the Corona Virus the Glacier Express has been cancelled. We still need to get from Zermatt to St Moritz on the 17th of March and a quick check of the timetables is telling me we would have to take 4 trains and go via Zurich, is there any other way?

Welcome to MySwissAlps!

Sorr to hear that your Glacier Express trip was cancelled. The Glacier Express is the only train that travels direct to St Moritz from Zermatt. Alternatively, you can travel on the same route by taking the regular trains and travelling via Andermatt. Check out the route details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere

However you would need to change trains at least 4 times before reaching St Moritz. Please use the advanced timetable to plan your journey: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

You can follow the Glacier Express route on regular trains by going Montreux to St Moritz via Andermatt. You will need to change trains at Brig, Andermatt, Disentis, and Reichenau-Tamins. The good nes is you don’t need to go as far as Chur.

Sometimes local trains from Zermatt use the same carriages as the ongoing train to Andermatt so you can sometimes achieve the trip with 3 changes
