Hi. We are planning a trip to Switzerland at the end of February. Initially we will travel to Milan, stay one night and next day pick up the train to Tirano – then the Bernina Express to Chur. We plan to stay one night in Chur and then go to Lucerne via the Glacier Express. Although I realise that we can only travel so far to Lucerne on the Glacier Express, do you think the journey will be feasible given the month of February as I know the last piece of the journey into Lucerne is by boat?

Any hints and tips would be great!

    Thanks

    Hi MarionW,

The last section of the trip doesn’t need to be by boat. If you change trains in Andermatt to head to Lucerne it would add quite a bit of time to take the boat from Flüelen. The timetable will show you the most direct route options for you: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable (train and bus)

Another option, with similar times to Lucerne is from Brig (rather than Andermatt).

If your destination is Luzern, it is somewhat illogical to use the Glacier Express which runs east – west along the southern border region of Switzerland. Why not leave that to another holiday? You will have seen more than adequate spectacular scenery on the Bernina Express route.
