Hi there I have already reserved two places in Excellence Class on January 19th 2023 getting on in Chur and ending in Zermatt. My question is do I now have to buy a ticket or just reserve a ticket in First Class for the same date? I see online that reservations for first class on that day getting on in Chur to Zermatt are already booking up. I am confused as to whether I need to wait until 60 days out and just buy a first class train ticket or am I supposed to reserve a first class ticket also right now? I am worried if I wait to book 60 days before for the first class tickets that there will be none left and I was told I have to purchase first class tickets in order to use it with my already reserved Excellence class seats. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I am confused!!

    Best,

    Penny

    Hi Penny!

There are 2 things you need for a Glacier Express ride in Excellence Class:

    • seat reservations: you’ve already got those, so there’s nothing else you have to do about this anymore and you don’t have to worry about seats getting sold out
    • a 1st class ticket or pass: you still need to get one, but there’s still plenty of time for this

Please find both explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/tickets.

Will you be having a 1st class rail pass during your holidays, such as a Swiss Travel Pass: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass? In that case you may not need a ticket at all. The pass will cover the entire ride and that, combined with your reservations, would be enough. Here’s how to find out which pass is best for your itinerary in Switzerland: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

If you won’t be having a pass, you’ll have to get a ticket. This can be a normal 1st class ticket or a 1st class Saver Day Pass:

The Saver Day Pass is usually cheaper for this ride than a normal ticket if you buy it well in advance: https://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price.

I hope this helps you out, and that you’ll have a wonderful experience in the Excellence Class ride! Let us know if you have further questions, we’re happy to help.
