    Hello,

We plan to visit Luzern from September 16 to 18 and would like to go to mount Pilatus and/or mount Rigi (depending on the weather). We intend to have Swiss Travel Pass.

The information regarding accessing mount Rigi is kind of clear and fully covered by Swiss Travel Pass but I am confused about going to mount Pilatus.

I read that there are long lines for cogwheel trains or cable cars. I tried to find the options for buying tickets beforehand (maybe one day in advance because of the weather ) but the links provide the information about “golden round”, “silver round” or some other trips.

Is it possible to get to mount Pilatus without any of those trips and what is the best way to arrange this?

    Regards, Sofia

This page has links to booking areas for individual trips

You need to buy one way tickets for each single journey, for example if you want to go Alpnachstad – Pilatus and back to Alphachstad, look for the box ‘tickets from Alpnachstad (uphill). Then go to the box labelled ‘tickets from Pilatus Kulm’ to get back down

    Hi Sofia,

You’re right. As explained above, you don’t need tickets the Golden or Silver round trip, as parts of those trips are already covered by your Swiss Travel Pass.

All you need is a 50% discounted return ticket. You’ll find several options under “Tickets for an independent day trip to Mount Pilatus” at https://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/gettingthere.

I recommend this one in your case: https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/excursionPilatus. It’s the official SBB tourist webshop, and it’s an easy e-ticket for which you can indicate you’re entitled to the Swiss Travel Pass discount. The return ticket is valid for both routes. So you can get up and down via Alpnachstad and Kriens (or twice via the same route) however you like. You don’t have to specify this in advance.
