We have purchased a 1st class swiss travel pass for the 2nd week of April. Are reservations necessary for the Golden Pass train from Montreaux to Zwiesseman? Our understanding is that continuing on from Zwiesseman to Interlaken we can use regular trains (no reservations). Is that correct?

Hi caseylight,

None of the trains from Montreux to Zweisimmen (mind the town names when checking schedules) requires seat reservations, unless you prefer the VIP seats that some of the trains have. For some trains reservations are recommended. For Zweisimmen to Interlaken it's not required either. So in short: all you need is your Swiss Travel Pass.

All information is here: myswissalps.com/ goldenpass/tickets

Enjoy the trip!

Thanks! One other question...

We are leaving Lucerne to go to Chur. One of the ways to get there is to go north towards Zurich to Thalwill and then to Chur or to go South to Andermatt and take the Glacier Express to Chur. Can you tell me pros/cons of each route? We have purchased a 1st class Swiss travel pass already.

Hi caseylight,

The first route is quicker and you just need to change trains once. The scenery isn't bad at all, but the Glacier Express route is more beautiful. That route takes longer at you need to change trains 2 or 3 times.

How much longer is the Glacier Express route and does it require a reservation?

Hello,

Please see the link in my previous post and click to all tabs for all information. You can do just a part of any scenic route if you wish, e.g. just Chur to Brig. You can find the timetable on that page as well.
