We are going to Zermatt in late May. Is it good to walk down from Rotenboden to Riffelalp? Could we catch the reflection of the Matterhorn on the lake? How should we buy the train ticket – a round trip or by sections? Thanks in advance.

    Hi tsklai,

Yes, that hike will get you some great views of the Matterhorn (as long as the weather cooperates)!

Read more about the hike and the route here: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/rotenboden-riffelalp/route

You could just buy tickets in sections as you go/ as needed.

    Thanks Lucas.

Would the lake surface freeze in late May and the reflection of Matterhorn could not be caught?

    Hi Lucas –

<<“We are going to Zermatt in late May. Is it good to walk down from Rotenboden to Riffelalp?”>>

That is a walk from 2800 meters to 22oo meters altitude, more or less.

I don’t know the area, but I wonder if the trails will be open and safe in May?

    Hi,

I was at Gornergrat this May and everywhere was under metres of snow!

    Regards

Yup, definitely dependent on snow levels/conditions as to whether the hike is possible.
