We are 6 seniors from USA. We have made a reservation for Glacier Express for September 22 for a 10:30 departure from St. Moritz to Brig . We will continue our journey from Brig to Grindelwald same day via Interlaken ost. We will reach by 8 pm. We will buy Half Fare Card on September 10. If we buy Savers Daily Pass for just one day of September 22, do we save any money? Can we travel on Glacier Express at additional discount with Half Fare Card? In another word, can we travel without paying to Glacier Express? The Savers Daily Pass will cost us 49 CHF . Brig to Interlaken will cost us 16 CHF..

    please advise.

Hello Giriheda and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

The Savers Daily Pass will cost us 49 CHF . Brig to Interlaken will cost us 16 CHF.”

The Saver Day Pass (not Savers Daily) doesn’t work like that. If you have a Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat) you can go all round Switzerland for a day. A Saver Day Pass is cheaper with a Swiss Half-fare card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard). They go on sale 60 days before you trave date and increase in price the closer your travel date gets.

Use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to plan your travel, find fares* and buy tickets if required. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. *SBB website shows half-fare prices by default, mobile app allows you to nominate full or half-fare and is also smart enough to offer you the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass) if that offers the best fare.

The SDP works on the Glacier Express but you need seat reservations (http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress/tickets) on top of that. When going through the reservation process just nominate you have your own ticket or a Swiss Travel Pass as a reduction for each passenger (on the screen after you select seats) so you only pay for the seat reservations.

ps You must have more stamina than me to go from St Moritz to Wengen in one hit. 😉

we will reach at 16: 40 in Brig by Glacier Express . we have to take immediate available train to Grindelwald via Interlaken ost. That is our base to stay for 6 nights.

We are buying half Fare Card(HFC) any way. The GExpress ticket with HFC is half of 114 CHf . That is 57 CHF. Then the cost of train ticket from Brig to Grindelwald is approximately 25 CHF . So we will spend 82 CHF. But if I buy SDP for 49 chf and that covers GExpress and onward journey , I will save about 33 chf.

    does this make sense?

please advise. so I will buy immediately SDP for September 22 only.

Hi Giri! Yes, I think you’ve got those numbers right. You can get your Saver Day Pass from http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass/price, and your Swiss Half Fare Card from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/price. It’s easier to get them in advance, meaning you won’t have to spend time on a purchase after arrival and that you’ll have an electronic back-up in case of loss or damage of your paper pass.

    Dear Annika,

we bought 6 SDP yesterday. We were lucky to buy at 49 chf for first class because second and first class price was the same for 22nd September. . So now , we have reservation at 33 chf for second class in GExpress on September 22 from St. Moritz to Brig. we have SDP and soon HFC . As a result, we will travel from ST. Moritz to Brig without paying any thing. Then we will take regional train from Brig to Grindelwald onward,in first class because our SDP is for first class.

    Does this make sense?

    Hi Giri!

Good that you were able to get reasonably priced Saver Day Passes! Yes, you will be enjoying free traveling on both the Glacier Express as well as Brig-Grindelwald, if you complete the entire journey on the day your Saver Day Pass is valid for. You may try to cancel or change your Glacier Express reservations to 1st class ones, since you’ll be having a 1st class Saver Day Pass! You’d best contact the retailer you used for arranging your seat reservations to find out what’s possible. A cancellation fee may apply, so it’s up to you to decide whether that’s worth it: http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress/tickets.
