We are a group of 7 people: 2 parents, 3 children (2, 5 & 10) and 3 adults. We will have a vacation in Jungfrau Region and Luzern.

Sunday, 21 July: Zurich Airport to Luzern to Interlaken Ost (Golden Pass between Luzern and Interlaken Ost) to Lauterbrunnen to Wengen.

Monday, 29 July: Wengen to Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken Ost to Luzern (Golden Pass) .

Friday, 2 August: Luzern to Zurich Airport

We plan to buy Half Fare Tickets and Train Tickets at SBB office at Zurich Airport. I want to make sure to buy the correct train tickets. Is it going to be a long wait at SBB office? Do the children travel free on train and bus and cable car? Should we consider other Train Pass?

I have read lots of answers from your forum. Thank you so much.

Hello Thoi N, welcome to MySwissAlps!

The Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard) could certainly be a good option for your stay. Whether it’s the most economical pass can only be decided once you’ve made calculations based on all of your plans. It’s hard to tell from your current itinerary, as I don’t know what your travel plans in Wengen are. Anyway, if you want to calculate the options to make sure, you can follow the guidelines at http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

If you pick this pass you can order along the free Swiss Family Card, allowing children to travel along for free on all routes: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard. The 2 and 5 year olds will travel along for free anyway, they don’t need any pass or ticket. You can get your Swiss Half Fare Cards at the Zurich Airport railway station indeed, but I can’t predict how long queues will be. I’d advise to get them in advance online, meaning that you don’t have to spend time on a purchase for 5 adults after arrival in Zurich. And, more important: you can store an electronic PDF backup on your phone in case of loss or damage of your printed paper ticket. Please find purchase options at http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/price.

Additional discounted tickets can either be bought at the railway stations before boarding, or online. Optiones are listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare.

    Hello Annika,

Our itinerary in Jungfrau region is flexible due to small children. Our base camp is Wengen and our interests are hiking, walking, biking and sightseeing. We have a high level itinerary below:

    – One day in Lauterbrunnen, Stechelberg, and hiking/walking/biking The Lauterbrunnen Valley Trail

    – One day in Lauterbrunnen, Grutschalp, Muerren, Schilthorn, and hiking/walking The Grutschalp-Murren Trail

    – One day in Mannlichen, Kleine Scheidegg, Eigergletscher, and hiking/walking a few trails there

    – One day in Grindelwald, First, Bachalpsee, and hiking/walking a few trails there

    – One day in Interlaken & Lake Brienz & Thun

    – One day on The Schynige Platte Trail

Thank you so much for your answer and help.

    Regards,

    Thoi

    Hi Thoi,

I’m afraid can’t give a definitive answer, as that would require detailed calculations as explained above :-). I still think the Swiss Half Fare Card will work, but you could look into these options as well:

Using the links above, you can study how each pass works and what activities it covers.
