Dear all, I’m not sure whether I can ask this question on this forum but I thought it worth a try …! My son is studying for his Masters at EPFL in Lausanne( Canton Vaud) . He arrived in September last year ( 2022) He is a South African citizen and holds a B-Permit for residency in Switzerland. He will be in Switzerland for two years. Yesterday he received his Swiss National Health Insurance bill ( AVS) for 515.60 Chf

He is a full-time student, no part-times work, has been in Switzerland for 7 months. Apparently he is exempt from paying this or at least the full amount. Where does he apply for exemption or who does he e-mail? Perhaps someone out there can help with advice?

    with grateful thanks.

    Hello Michelle,

Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that the above bill is for his compulsory health insurance here? From whom, and for what period is this bill for? I would probably contact whoever sent you the invoice and explain the situation or is there someone at EPFL he could ask. I am sure they are accustomed to international students attending.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
