    Hi All

We are going to Switzerland in last week of May and I have done the bookings for stays as below

Day 1 – We arrive at Zurich Airport in evening and go straight to Liuzern – overnight stay at Luzern

Day 2: Luzerne – pilatus Golden Round trip

Day 3 – Luzern – Mt Titlis round trip

Day 4 : Lake Luzern and VIlla Honegg Spa ( need to check if they allow kids or any arrangement could be made for him ) and in evening, we transfer to Wengen – Overnight at Wengen

Day 5: Wengen – Jungfrau and return via Grindelwald – This will depend on weather – Overnight at Wengen

    Day 6 : Wengen – Interlaken – Spiez – Wengen – Overnight at Wengen

    day 7 : cruise

Day 7 : Trummelbach falls / Murren and evening we transfer to Zurich

Day 8 : Rhine falls and flight to London very late in night

I wanted to ask few things

    1. I have done hotel bookings but do I book Mountain trips in advance ? Not sure if weather forecast as of now is accurate enough

    2. Is the above itinerary covering good sights or shall we change this

    3. Would you suggest adding Zermatt day trip from wengen / Luzern on one day

    4. Considering we have done our stay bookings, is there a way we could fit one of the panaromic trains for partial route as I have so much about Glacier express.

The booking at Wengen can be cancelled as well so in case experts in the forum have better suggestions, would love to hear it out

Lastly, we do have swiss rail pass for 8 days.

    Kind Regards

    Pooja

Hello Pooja and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You have for sure invested quite some research into your itinerary, very nice!
This answers question one 1.and 2.,I hope! =)

You will find input on practically all your destinations by typing them into the search bar of this page.

You can for sure add a daytrip to Zermatt from either Wengen or Lucerne. To find out about time needed to get there and back use the timetable. Make sure you read how it works, it’s a superb tool for planning.

You can partially use the Glacier Express to get to Zermatt from either place, check the route section for details:

For details on the Swiss Travel Pass use:

Hope this answers your questions. Get back to us for any further input.

    Hi Steph

thanks for your reply:) Am glad to hear that the itinerary is good. I have few more questions

    1. Should we pre book the mountain trips – Jungfrau / Mt Titlis / Mt Pilatus or do it when we reach depending on the weather

    2. I see it says rain and snow on mountains for most time when I am there – does that mean it’s bad timing 🙁

    3. What to pack as weather is city is high of 19 but mountain looks freezing

    thanks again for help !

    Kind Regards

    pooja

    Hi Pooja,

    You’re very welcome!

    1. You don’t need to book tickets for the mountain excursions in advance, just buy them once you’re there. If you nevertheless want to buy the tickets online on shorter notice, this is another option:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch/packages
    http://www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/packages
    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti tlis/packages

To keep an eye on the weather use below link, and also the mobile app SwissMeteo is of great use:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/we ather/forecast

    2. Precipitation on the mountain tops normally means snow, which can also be a quite unique and lovely experience, e.g. if you’ve never actually experienced snow falling. Snow isn’t as wet as rain and doesn’t literally mean that you’ll end up soaking wet.

    3. In the mountains it’s always recommendable to have an extra layer or two of clothing as the weather can change quickly there. So an extra sweater and some sort of jacket would make sense I’d say. However you’ll find indoor areas and heated buildings on all of your destinations, so you won’t have to put up with lower temperatures permanently. On Mount Titlis you can even rent equipment (jackets and shoes), the other mountains don’t offer this.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    Best,
    Steph

    Hi P0oja,

Yes, this is true, the link in our forecast page is only available in German, however the pictures should still give you an idea of the upcoming weather.

Try this link as an alternative, providing some minor information in English:
    http://www.meteoswiss.admin.c h/home.html?tab=overview

There are several other webpages available, but I don’t know them and can thus not say anything about accuracy, etc. Try
    http://www.meteocentrale.ch/e n/weather.html

    Best,
    Steph

    Hi Steph

Thanks again. You are awesome and such great help!

I have few more questions now that I am making detailed itinerary. We plan to take golden round trip to Pilatus and have swiss passes. Where would we need to take the additional tickets from ? Can we take them on spot ? Also, does cogwheel work only on good weather days ? I see its all rainy next week so not sure if I will have any good views :(Also, same information is needed for Titlis. Where do we take cable car tickets from ? And looking at current forecast, would it be waste of time going up ? Not sure what else we could do if both days we have are bad weather days.

    Please help!

    Hi Pooja,

Please see our Pilatus page for ticket information: http://www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/tickets.

The weather forecast is only somewhat reliable from 2 to 3 days ahead of time. Only then you can see which hours of the day might be best for a mountain visit: http://www.myswissalps.com/we ather/forecast.
