    Hi Mates,

I have STP for 2nd and 3rd Jan. I have already seen Zurich, Bern, Interlaken and been to Jungfraujosh. All of this in 2 days and been in trains for a long time given that I came from Paris to Zurich by train as well.

I have 1 year old and 4 year old traveling with me. I am living near Interlaken OST train station and I check out on 3rd. My wife wants to do one of those seneric trains, a short trip 3 hours tops should suffice I guess. Other than that I would like help of forum members to suggest a couple of places within an hours train reach from interlaken ost, places that I can do on STP without any charges :] I can do waterfalls, lakes, historic towns or any other WOW places where it is easy to take baby pram, no more city or mountain tops 🙂

Oh plus I travel to Venice on 3rd, can a kind soul guide me how I can utilize STP and save on travel from Interlaken to Venice. My STP expires on night of 3rd.

I know this is last minute but…. my cell got stolen in Paris hence could not ask for suggestions entire last week. THANKS in advance and Happy New Year to everyone who reads this 🙂

    HiMaLiK –

Welcome to My Swiss Alps. Sounds like you are having a busy time.

There might be lake cruises on Lake Thun, and maybe Lake Brienz, but the service is minimal in Winter.

May be something in one of the links on that page.

Use the timetable to find routes:

Your STP will only pay as far as the Swiss/Italian Border. From there on, you pay.

    Hi MaLik,

I think Lake Thun could be a nice option as Slowpoke suggests: http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakethun

A scenic train trip could be to do part of the Golden Pass route (from Interlaken to Montreux) http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass/gettingthere

Mt. Schilthorn is free with the Swiss Travel Pass is you are interested in another mountain trip: http://www.myswissalps.com/sc hilthorn

An easy mountain trip on the world’s steepest funicular is at Stoos. You can read about my trip there last winter here: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/day-trip-to-stoos-worlds-steepest-funicular

To buy tickets to Venice (if you are going on Jan.3) then you only need tickets from the Swiss-Italian border – which from Interlaken Domodossola usually (or Chiasso if you go via Lugano). Tickets can be bought here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/italy/price

    Thanks Slowpoke and Lucas.

I just did Interlaken to Montreux and back to Interlaken via Visp. Made stops in 3 villages and explored them while going to Montreux. Really enjoyed the journey.

Need to search for route to Venice now =]

    Hi MaLiK-

Thanks for your report. Nice trip.

Since that is a long one, I suspect that you did not have time to add an hour for the upper route between Visp and Spiez via Brig and Kandersteg. Rather scenic.

Although this thread is about a hike alongside the tracks between Brig and Landersteg, (more or less), you can get a few glimpses of something nicer that the inside of that new tunnel . I don’t have ay photos handy, but the ride between Kandersteg and Spiez is quite nice, as well.

The trip you made on the spur of the moment certainly points out the versatility and flexibility of the Swiss train system, as well as the abundance of nice places to look at or stop and explore. 😉

From Interlaken to Venice the fastest route is via Spiez and Milano (6.5 to 7 hours).

If you have time and are ok with more train connections search the route but put in via Kandersteg.

Just to be sure, I can travel to Domodossola on my STP and then buy tickets to Venice from Domodossola station?
