Hi guys, first time traveller to Jungfrau region here, and I would appreciate some help from the Swiss travel experts.

I will be travelling in Switzerland for 5 days and 4 nights. For the first two nights, we will be in Luzern and for the next two, our hotel is in Wengen.

I am thinking of purchasing a 4 day Swiss Travel Pass (CHF270). However, due to several places we want to visit, such as Jungfraujoch and Pilatus, I am not sure how much extra we have to pay on top of paying for the Swiss Travel Pass.

    Here’s my itinerary:

1st day: Travelling from Zurich Airport to Luzern which I believe is around CHF 15.00 for individual tickets ( Please correct if I am wrong, as on the SBB website, it is not clear to me if the prices are with Half-Fare pass or without)

2nd day: Travelling from Luzern to Golden Round Trip (http://www.pilatus.ch/en/disc over/golden-round-trip/) Pilatus and Lake Luzern which costs CHF 110 without Swiss Travel Pass. To clarify, with Swiss Travel Pass, is the boat trip to Luzern free and 50% discount for railway tickets to Pilatus? How much is it with a Swiss Travel Pass?

3rd day: Travelling from Luzern to Wengen via Interlaken, where we will spend a night free and easy.

4th day: Jungfraujoch excursion day – We will go to Jungfrau from Wengen, and we plan to go to the Sphinx Observatory deck. I understand that with the Swiss Travel Pass (STP), I will have to pay extra for Jungfraujoch to go on the top, but several websites have different fares. May I know how much is this discounted with the STP? Is there a discount for Sphinx Observatory deck? Or is it free with the STP and Jungfrau transfer ticket?

We will then return to Wengen to spend the night.

5th day: We will check out from our Wengen hotel. However, we want to visit Grindelwald on the way back to Interlaken. Can we go from Wengen to Grindelwald to Interlaken with our Swiss Travel Pass for free? if not, What are the extra charges for this?

Please help!! I am really lost especially with Day 4 and 5!

    Thank you very much.

I also need to know this! I will be there next month and we’ll be staying in Interlaken and traveling to Jungfrau. I can’t figure out what the cheapest way to get there is.

    Thank you

Hi bee, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    >> Travelling from Zurich Airport to Luzern which I believe is around CHF 15.00 for individual tickets ( Please correct if I am wrong, as on the SBB website, it is not clear to me if the prices are with Half-Fare pass or without)

The full fare is CHF 30.

    >> Travelling from Luzern to Golden Round Trip … How much is it with a Swiss Travel Pass?

Golden Round trip to Pilatus with Swiss Travel Pass (can be done in either direction)

    • Boat to Alpnachstad – free
    • Cogwheel to Pilatus – 50% discount
    • Cable car and gondola to Kriens – 50% discount
    • Bus to Luzern – free

    Prices

    >> Jungfraujoch … how much is this discounted with the STP? Is there a discount for Sphinx Observatory deck?

With a Swiss Travel Pass, you get free travel to Wengen or Grindelwald, and 25% discount between either of those villages and the Jungfraujoch. There is no charge for the Sphinx Observatory.

Full-fare prices vary by season and can be found here:

    >> Can we go from Wengen to Grindelwald to Interlaken with our Swiss Travel Pass for free?

Yes, if you take the train via Zweilütschinen, rather than the train via Kleine Scheidegg or the cableways via Männlichen (see attached diagrams of the transport routes).

You don’t say when you are travelling. Some of the transport you are considering does not operate all year round.

Hi Gator4ever, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    > we’ll be staying in Interlaken and traveling to Jungfrau. I can’t figure out what the cheapest way to get there is.

Do you have a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, Eurail Pass, Jungfrau Travel Pass or Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland? All of those will get you some sort of discount (but discounts vary according to pass).

If you don’t have a pass or discount card, the Good Morning Ticket would be your best option if you can fit in with the time limitations.

If you have any follow-up questions, especially if it is going to get involved, it would be better to open your own thread in the Switzerland Rail or Switzerland Miscellaneous forums, depending on the content of your questions:

Just present your Swiss Travel Pass when you buy your ticket to the Jungfraujoch, and they will apply the discount. It’s best not to buy your ticket in advance, in case the weather is not suitable, or the top of the Jungfraujoch is in the clouds, blocking all views.

You can check the webcam to see what conditions are like before buying a ticket to go up:

    Hi bee and gato4ever87!

I think the both of you already have lots of questions answered by Alpenrose. Just for your and other readers’ reference, below are some links that will help you figure out which discounts are provided by the Swiss Travel Pass and how to find ticket prices for the various attractions:

Links to other ticket prices can be found on the “tickets” tab of each of our attraction pages: https://www.myswissalp s.com/activities.
