Hi,

We are a group of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids) travelling from Vevey to Lucerne on 1st Jun 2018. This is our first trip to Switzerland. Need help with following:

1. I am trying to reserve the golden pass line, but the website shows that there are no trains where we can reserve the seat. Can we still catch these trains and if yes then when and how should we book the tickets?

2. From Vevey to Lucerne there seem to be multiple stops / changes, it looks scary especially given we will have lot of luggage – how does these changes happen between trains?

3. We plan to buy the Swiss Travel Pass -we are in Switzerland for 8 days based out of Vevey and Lucerne. Any suggestions on if that is the right pass to take?

Hello Kunwar Singh and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You are travelling 1 day too early to reserve seats on the Golden Pass line from Montreux to Zweisimmen. There is construction on the line and a short bus detour up to and including 1 June.

At most stations along the route you will get off the train on one side of the platform and get on another train on the other side of the platform.

A Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) is most likely a good idea but you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math.

Thanks for the update – really helpful. Should we still use the golden pass line beyond Zweisimmen? And what is the best option for Vevey to Zweisimmen?

I will download the spreadsheet calculator for the passes.

Hello Kunwar,

The Golden Pass Line is the most scenic option to get from Vevey to Lucerne. From Zweisimmen to Spiez you have no choice but to continue on the Golden Pass Line. If it was me I’d go all the way to Lucerne on the GPL route. Reservations are not required.

If you want the fastest route just look for Vevey to Lucerne in the Swiss Train Timetable (goo.gl/PXbqWw). Adding via Zweisimmen and Meiringen should give you the full GPL route.
