    Greetings!!

I am traveling to Switzerland with my wife from 10.06.2018 till 18.06.2018.

I have made my calculations and I am thinking of buying a Swiss Half Fare Card for both of us.

I have some specific questions. Can someone help me please?

    a) Can I buy the Swiss Half Fare Card at Lugano main train Station?

Or maybe it’s better to buy it online and print it at home?

    b) Do the train station vending machines sell tickets at half the price?

    c) Can I buy half price tickets directly from SBB’s website to use them with my Swiss Half Fare Card?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Rockoyster,

If due to wet weather and I have to cancel outdoor hiking/activities to taking train rides instead, is “screenshot format” or “pdf print” tickets on smartphone acceptable?

Do ticketing machines accept only coins? Or accept CHF notes with change refund as well? (I had to slot all coins in Prague) . Thank you.

    Hi May,

Are you referring to the Swiss Half Fare Card? If so you must print it out. If you buy a ticket using the SBB app you can show it to the train staff when asked (they scan a barcode).

Machines accept coins and credit cards and chf notes as well.

Thank you, Lucas. You have cleared my doubts on single-journey train tickets (if I buy Half Fare Card)… Switzerland has too many varieties of travel passes, cards and tickets introduced by the very own train operator, which are confusing to new visitors – Love beautiful Switzerland yet this “Love is very complicated” 😀

Yes, it is unfortunately a little complicated in Switzerland! They try to have something for everyone but it can be too much sometimes! Have a great trip!
